The car is now offered with a DRASTIC REDUCTION in price, as the garage space is urgently needed. All reasonable offers considered.

This is an important car in the history of the Clubman category in Australia. It is a record-holding and former State championship winning historic Mawer Clubman 1600, chassis number 2. The histories of the other four examples are all known.

It was built by the highly respected race engineer Dave Mawer in 1971 and was first log-booked in 1972. It now holds a Group Q Certificate of Description. The car is currently represented as it was in 1976.

Graeme McClintock won the NSW state clubman championship and ran second in the national championship including the clubman lap record at Winton in the late 70’s. It is one of the most significant historic Clubman race cars in Australia and in 2017 was generally overhauled by Dave Mawer, the designer and builder (with Harry Galloway), when purchased by the present owner.

It holds a CAMS historic C of D and CAMS log book, and is classified as a Group Q (sports) car. It is a very quick sports-racing car, but has only been used by its ageing (and now retired) driver in supersprints.

The engine is a dry-sumped Ford 1600 crossflow, highly modified as follows:

• twin 45 Weber carburettors
• steel narrow pin short stroke crankshaft
• Argo steel conrods
• forged pistons
• Kent 262 camshaft, new in 2021 with engine rebuild
• cylinder head originally modified by George Rallis, including:
o lightened valves and exhaust seat inserts
o roller rockers
o lightweight valve train
o all components upgraded and new as part of comprehensive 2021 rebuild
• Tilton starter motor (new 2018)

The motor was completely rebuilt by Rodney Gibbes in 2021 and is basically new. It now produces 167 bhp at the wheels. Since the rebuild it has only run in one supersprint at SMSP.

Clutch: sintered bronze single plate on steel flywheel.

Gearbox: Volvo, very tough, quick gearchange, factory close ratios.

Differential: Ford Cortina with four ratios including one limited slip, all excellent condition.

Brakes: oversize disc brakes all round; all components new or nearly new..

Wheels: Simmons 10 x 13 rear, 8 x 13 on the front, currently fitted with Avon slicks. Second set of original Mawer rims with Dunlop wets, only used for one meeting, tread blocks still sharp.

Front uprights and axles were crack tested four years ago. All fibreglass moulds including spare nose cones and jigs for lower wishbones and associated spares are included. Four different driving seats.

The car has been regularly and comprehensively maintained by Superior Autosports. All spherical rod ends, aircraft quality, were installed new in 2018. Near new Sabelt six-point harness, and near-new Schroth lightweight head restraint included.

All service bills may be viewed. A strong open trailer in excellent condition is available separately if required.
