This well known Queensland Group Nc Torana is a GTR XU-1 clone with a LJ body built in May 1972. First developed by Greg Burrowes, in 1994, it ran at Lakeside’s Historic Queensland in 1995. Originally the car was finished in the standard, but quite rare, GMH Linamint and now presents in a definitely more vibrant ‘ Kermit Green’.
In October 2005 the GTR passed to David Malone who for the next 8 years was active in SE Queensland sprints and hill climbs with some circuit work at Morgan Park, Warwick.
Early 2004, keen Holden man David Streat, purchased the car and it again became a regular Group N entrant at Lakeside and especially Morgan Park. David currently competes another fast XU-1 and and so, in August 2023, John Carson took over ownership. Since then, the GTR has had three track outings, a GEAR day at Morgan Park, a sprint meet at Queensland Raceway and one Group N race meeting at Lakeside. Previously a Group S Sports Cars competitor, this September 2023 event was the new custodian’s first ever Group N race.
Whilst excellent fun and the car performed well, it was involved in a very small skirmish at Eastern Loop. Only minor panel repairs were required at Garage 64 of Withcott, the same shop which performed a major body refinish in 2019.
Unfortunately, due to a December 2023 skiing accident in Canada, John has had to give up motor sport and quit this car and others. Accordingly this superb car, it’s trailer and spares is available for purchase.
