Unveiled at the 1989 Frankfurt Motorshow, the Pininfarina-designed, mid-engined Ferrari 348 was the eagerly awaited successor to the quintessentially 1980s 328. With an updated quad-cam V8 engine positioned longitudinally and lower in the chassis, Ferrari managed to install an F1-inspired, transversally mounted manual gearbox.
